Health Benefits*

Peppermint is a highly aromatic and refreshing herb traditionally valued for its cooling and digestive-supporting properties. It is commonly used as a carminative herb to help ease bloating, reduce gas, soothe cramping, and support general digestive comfort. Its naturally uplifting aroma also makes it a popular herb for clarity and refreshment.

Leaves can be used fresh or dried for herbal teas. To prepare, steep 1 teaspoon of dried leaves or 1 tablespoon of fresh leaves in 1 cup of boiling water for approximately 5 minutes.

“Best peppermint tea! I love this peppermint tea, it’s so minty and a little goes a long way. Best peppermint tea I’ve tried.” — JW

Planting Instructions

Peppermint is a vigorous perennial that will spread readily once established. It is best planted in contained areas, such as pots, raised beds with edging, or designated garden spaces where it can be managed.

It prefers full sun to partial shade in a sheltered position. Peppermint thrives in moist soil but should not be waterlogged. Consistent watering during dry summer periods is important for healthy growth, but avoid wetting the foliage to reduce the risk of leaf issues.

Prepare soil with compost and plant into a lightly mulched, well-amended bed.

The peppermint dies down completely in autumn and can be successfully transplanted in winter. Growing buds are already in place and in spring, it grows back vigorously and effortlessly.

To plant dormant cuttings, create a shallow trench approximately 5 cm deep and lay the cuttings horizontally, ensuring the green growing tips are left pointing upward (see images below). Cover lightly with soil and water in well.

This is the amount for a 20cm wide planter/pot (choose "Small" above)

Make a shallow trench into the soil (below).

Cover the roots and stalks with 5cm of soil.

Keep the growing tips above the soil surface.

Add a light layer of mulch on top and the peppermint will emerge strongly in spring.

Peppermint

To my delight this peppermint plant has started growing well in a pot. It smells wonderful and I've had my first cup of tea this morning which was delicious and refreshing. I would recommend this plant to anyone! So much cheaper than buying tea leaves!

Delicious tea and wonderful aroma of peppermint

Clear easy to follow instructions, my peppermint thrived in the tub I planted it in. I dried some leaves and made peppermint tea, delicious. Love the smell of peppermint too.

Very happy!

I was very happy with my peppermint, which I planted in a pot because I was worried it might take over, but perhaps I needn’t have worried? It did very well in a sunny spot on my deck and I love it for tea. It is still going well (I am in Auckland). I found your instructions very clear and the packaging was excellent.

Liz Manuel on May 3, 2021

Clear instructions

I grew them in a large pot and I have had a good lot of peppermint to use in my tea.
Your instructions are very clear that you have on your website and the packaging is good.
I had sufficient peppermint from the small cutting for my needs.

Plant have done well

My peppermint has done very well in a big pot, considering it suffered from lack of water on numerous occasions over these last few dry months. It’s dying back now and looking sad so thanks for the tips on re-planting. I’m in the process of moving my herb garden so I will put it in the garden and mulch it for next year. I have enjoyed my peppermint tea ?
