Kawakawa (Macropiper excelsum): Kawakawa was used as a ‘tea’ by early European settlers who were awaiting shipments of black tea, and prized as a pick me up for these hard workers. While it doesn’t contain caffeine like tea does, it is known as a refreshing, rejuvenating and uplifting tonic to improve energy and stamina. Tea made from Kawakawa leaves has a refreshing and cooling note and tastes delicious.
Peppermint (Mentha × piperita): Aromatic and very flavourful, peppermint is wonderful for the digestive system, acting as a carminative to reduce gas, ease nausea and sooth cramping. It is an uplifting herb and cooling to the body.
Nettle (Urtica dioica): The list of vitamins and minerals in this herb includes nearly every one known to be necessary for human health and growth. Vitamins A, C, D and K, calcium, potassium, phosphorous, iron and sulphur are particularly abundant in nettles. Pure nettle tea can provide more energy than one cup of coffee. Traditionally used for stress reduction and energy, nettle has the added bonus of improving the absorption of iron within the bloodstream. Published in the journal “Zeitschrift Fur Phytotherapie” for German pharmacists, this study showed that patients who had been drinking nettle tea had more iron in their bloodstream compared to patients who were not given nettle.
Directions:
Use 1-2 tsp. (1g) for a cup of tea (250ml), steep for 5 minutes and strain.
More uses:
Add a bit of fresh lemon juice and ice cubes to cooled down tea to create a refreshing ice-tea in summer.
Store below 20 °C out of direct light in a dark and dry cupboard to retain freshness.
Caution: Do not drink during pregnancy.

The aerial parts of goldenrod have been identified as having many beneficial properties including as an anticatarrhal, an herb which helps the body remove excess mucus. Goldenrod also contains high levels of the anti-inflammatory constituent quercitin, which, along with its astringent action, can help alleviate the symptoms of allergies.*
