Mentha suaveolens
Apple mint is a beautiful tasting mint. It can alleviate headache and various digestive problems.*

Hyssopus officinalis
Hyssop is a wonderful medicinal herb, which can be used as a medicinal herbal tea with soothing qualities useful to support the lungs during colds and flus* or as a flavouring for soups, sauces, meat and egg dishes. Use sparingly because of its strong flavour.

Scutellaria lateriflora
Skullcap is a premier nervine. It has a wonderful way of calming and centering the nervous system. Skullcap acts as a mild yet effective sedative and helps relieve nervous tension and anxiety. Skullcap can be taken over long periods of time to strengthen and reinvigorate the nervous system, making it more resilient and strong. It also can be taken in acute situations of extreme stress, such as panic attacks and trauma. In these situations skullcap works quickly to bring the nervous system back to a place of homeostasis and calm.*

Lemon Balm has a pleasant lemony taste. It can reduce nervous tension, anxiety and improve sleep. It is also uplifting and soothing to the spirit and aids digestion. Its antiviral properties make it a great remedy for cold sores.*

Leonurus cardiaca
Motherwort is very effective at tonifying and strengthening the heart and circulatory system. Energetically it helps people to feel lionhearted (note its Latin name Leonurus cardiaca), hopeful and full of life. Motherwort is potent bitter to aid digestion and tonifies the liver. It is also a strong nervine and can reduce nervous tension, relax muscles and ease menstrual discomfort and cramping. It is a common treatment for hot flushes and emotional upheaval. It is uplifting, yet grounding.*

Solidago virgaurea
The aerial parts of goldenrod have been identified as having many beneficial properties including as an anticatarrhal, an herb which helps the body remove excess mucus. Goldenrod also contains high levels of the anti-inflammatory constituent quercitin, which, along with its astringent action, can help alleviate the symptoms of allergies.*

Calendula (calendula officinalis) is often referred to as pot marigold. It can be used both internally and externally. It is very versatile. We have selected our flowers to have a high resin content and they prove to us every day that they have high medicinal qualities (more details below).

Dries marshmallow leaves and flowers ready for processing into a tea, infused oil, herbal wash or poultice.
Marshmallow (althea officinalis) is soothing in every sense of the word. The leaves and flowers have a pleasant flavour and are excellent in teas. They blend well with other bronchial supporting herbs like mullein. Traditionally it was used to treat inflammation of the urinary tract and respiratory system.

Rosemary is a greatly valued herb that has been used since antiquity to improve and strengthen the memory. Rosemary has an anti-inflammatory effect due to rosmarinic acid and flavonoids. It is also a powerful antioxidant.
Rosemary stimulates the circulation of blood to the head, improving memory and concentration. It also eases headaches and migraines.
It is valued as a herb that raises the spirits and is helpful when recovering from long-term stress and chronic illness.
It makes a great infusion that can be added to the bathwater to ease aching muscles or premenstrual tension.
Rosemary combined with sage makes a great gargle for sore throat.

Marshmallow (althea officinalis) is soothing in every sense of the word. The roots are medicinal and full of gooey mucilage that is good for healing irritated mucosa.

Elecampane (inula helenium) clears dense, sticky mucus from the bronchial system. It is warming to the system and relieves coughing and asthma. High in inulin it is also a prebiotic for your gut flora.

Medicinal use of licorice dates back to ancient Egypt, where the root was made into a sweet drink for pharaohs. It has also been used in traditional Chinese, Middle Eastern, and Greek medicines to soothe an upset stomach, reduce inflammation, and treat upper respiratory problems.

Kanuka Kunzea ericoides
A "tea-tree" similar to Manuka, traditionally used to make a herbal tea, grows well on KoruKai Herb Farm. We love it for its antimicrobial and antifungal properties. It supports the body to fight off infections.
We use Kanuka in herbal tea blend as foot soak and make infused oils for topical applications.

Ground ginger is essential in much Western baking including cakes, biscuits, and traditional gingerbread. It is widely used in many cuisines, including a variety of stir-fry and curry dishes in India and Oriental countries.

Ceylon cinnamon quills
Cinnamomum verum
The use of cinnamon as an aromatic spice can be dated to as far back as ancient Egypt. Popular in spice mixes, sweet or savoury recipes, and hot or cold beverages.
This is Ceylon cinnamon. It is sometimes called 'true' cinnamon and is far superior in taste to the commonly used, cheaper cassia variety.
