Kānuka and St John’s Wort are two of our most trusted herbs for supporting the skin during viral flare-ups. In this healing lip balm, they are combined with soothing calendula flowers to create a deeply nourishing, protective balm traditionally used to support the skin during cold sore (herpes simplex) outbreaks around the lips.
Kānuka is well known in New Zealand herbal tradition for its powerful antimicrobial and antiviral properties, while St John’s Wort has long been valued for its ability to soothe nerve-related discomfort and support irritated or inflamed skin. Calendula adds gentle skin-repairing and calming qualities, helping to soften, moisturise, and protect delicate lip tissue.
Together, these herbs create a rich, protective balm that helps support the lips when they are most vulnerable, while also keeping them hydrated and comfortable.
This balm is not only ideal for cold sore-prone lips, but can also be used for dry, cracked, or chapped lips, and may offer supportive care for other virus-related skin conditions such as shingles or chickenpox, where soothing and skin nourishment is beneficial.
Directions
Apply at the very first signs of tingling or discomfort. Reapply 3–5 times daily, or as needed to keep the area moisturised and protected.
For best results, use consistently during the active phase of symptoms and continue until the skin has fully settled.
