We have been making our own sourdough bread for over 16 years now and still enjoy every loaf we produce. We offer regular and gluten-free sourdough starters, eGuides, basic equipment, and workshops. With the right tools and a helping hand, you can succeed in making bread at home - regular and gluten-free.

  • Culinary Herbs & Food Seasonings

    Our culinary herbs are grown on KoruKai Herb Farm, Banks Peninsula. They are enjoying dry and sun-kissed areas on the farm and are thriving. The aroma is strong, and a little goes a long way. Because they are harvested and dried with care, away from direct sunlight, they retain and concentrate their flavour. The green look proves that they are far superior to their grey counterparts in supermarkets.

Sourdough Starter for Baking Bread

Bring your own sourdough to life with our lively traditional starter culture. Choose fresh starter, ready to feed and bake with once it arrives, or dried starter, ideal for long-term storage and easy reactivation for up to 9 months.

Your starter is sent by courier, and our Sourdough Starter eGuide will be emailed to you with simple instructions to feed, activate, and maintain your culture. For more recipes and advanced baking tips, see our Sourdough Bread Baking Guide (sold separately).

Fresh starter is shipped every Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday). Orders and payment must be received by 4pm Saturday for the following week’s dispatch. Dried starter ships any day of the week.

Both options are supplied in a sealed pouch (no glass jar included).

Please have some rye flour ready for feeding. We also stock organic wholegrain rye flour.

We also offer a Gluten-Free Sourdough starter.

Gluten-Free Sourdough Starter

Our KoruKai gluten-free organic sourdough starter is very flexible and works with quinoa, millet, brown rice, sorghum and buckwheat flours.
Best to feed with brown rice flour or a combination of the above with some brown rice flour in it. It comes with an eGuide to help you take care of it and gives you a basic bread recipe.

Contains 100% certified organic brown rice flour and filtered spring water.


The fresh starter gets shipped every Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a public holiday).
Order and payment needs to be in by 4pm Saturday to get shipped the following Monday.

The dried starter gets shipped any day of the week.

Advanced Class in Natural Cheese Making

We are so excited to bring to you an advanced class in natural cheese making. In this two-day workshop you will learn how to make a variety of aged, natural cheeses. We will be making Camembert, Cheddar and Stilton - an English blue cheese.

It is best if you have some basic understanding of natural cheese making, have worked with David Asher's recipes or have attended our Introduction to Natural Cheese making workshop.
