Wooden Pounder

After years of making ferments at KoruKai Herb Farm, we’ve used (and broken in) a fair number of pounders—and we know what makes a really good one. This beech wood pounder is designed for comfort, durability, and effective fermentation prep.

Used to firmly press and pound vegetables, it helps release natural juices needed for successful lacto-fermentation. It’s also ideal for tightly packing vegetables into jars, ensuring everything stays submerged and properly compacted.

The thoughtfully designed double-ended shape allows it to work comfortably with both wide-mouth and regular-mouth jars, making it a versatile tool for any fermenting kitchen.

Glass Jar

A high-quality 1 litre wide-mouth glass preserving jar with stainless steel compound lid, designed for everyday fermentation and preserving.

Perfect for lacto-fermented vegetables such as sauerkraut and kimchi, as well as yoghurt, kefir, and kombucha. This jar is designed to work seamlessly with the included fermentation weight and airlock system for optimal results.

The standard lid can be used once fermentation is complete for convenient fridge storage.


Glass Fermentation Weight

Our KoruKai glass fermentation weight is designed to be both practical and reliable. Heavy and sturdy enough to keep even active ferments fully submerged, it helps ensure safe, consistent fermentation.

The central handle makes it easy to insert and remove from jars, even during active fermentation. It is also simple to clean—either by hand or in the dishwasher.

Measurements: 70mm diameter | 25mm depth


Airlock System

This silicone airlock is used during the active fermentation phase at room temperature. It allows gases produced during fermentation to safely escape while preventing oxygen from entering the jar—helping reduce the risk of spoilage.

Made from FDA-approved, food-grade silicone, it is durable, reusable, and dishwasher safe.

Once fermentation is complete, simply remove the airlock and weight and replace with the standard lid for fridge storage.

Colour will be selected at random unless you specify a preference at checkout. Available colours include: blue, green, purple, red/pink, and white.

Worth the investment.

I used to make ferments without the weights and airlocks and now that I have them I know that they are totally worth the investment. They work a treat and the outcome is so much better than without.
