Come and enjoy a guided tour of KoruKai Herb Farm and meet the team behind KoruKai. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the farm, learn about our growing systems, and have your questions answered along the way.
You’ll explore the gardens, composting systems, and fertility setups that support our chemical-free and organically managed farm. We use integrated pest and disease management practices and regularly measure nutrient density in our vegetables and herbs using a Brix meter, alongside microbial soil analysis to guide our decisions and improve soil health.
During the tour, you’ll see how we produce 6 tonnes of compost each year, including Johnson-Su compost, thermal compost, vermicast, compost extracts, and plant extracts used to nourish our plants and soil food web.
Permaculture principles are woven throughout the farm as we work towards creating closed-loop systems wherever possible. Our design approach includes water harvesting swales, silvopastures, and productive forest garden systems. We hold a Permaculture Design Certificate with Geoff Lawton.
You’ll also meet some of the animals that contribute to the farm ecosystem, including Wiltshire sheep, chickens, weaner pigs, and our Jersey house cow, whose milk we transform into butter, cheese, and yoghurt.
Ingredients: Inspiration and positive vibes :-)
Lovely tour very informative. Adorable animals. Beware of cow patties!
Thank you Cornelia and Kai for such an amazing afternoon, I came over with my daughter Yasmine. The afternoon was so informative the knowledge you both have is awesome.Listening to the opening talk how, where and why you started KoruKai to now is totally impressive. Your property being on such a steep hillside just shows what can be done with the correct input. I would recommend the farm tour to anyone.A word from an over 70yr old the hillside is very very steep, have sturdy shoes. And the aching knees made it so worthwhile.
Once again a huge thank you both.
5 star all the way. From booking the workshop, email communication, the gorgeous drive to their property. Fantastic welcome from Kai, amazing and informative presentation from beautiful Cornelia. Passionate and authentic couple, fantastic location. Highly recommend this workshop and their products. Thank you both for an education packed gorgeous day?
First up, the farm was easy to find with the instructions provided by Cornelia and Kai. But what I wasn't expecting was the drive to the farm to be one of the most spectacular I've encountered over the 12 years I've been in NZ !!
My intersection with KoruLai had been doing their fantastic Hot Compost Online Course and learning from their worm farming and bio char guides from their website.
The farm tour itself was fantastic. Awesome information for the would-be herb farmer or self-sufficient farmer but also exceptional for the domestic-plot gardener such as myself.
However, the highlight for me was - for a few hours - being part of the unfolding story that is KoruKai. What an inspiring passion project!!
Thanks for an epic afternoon, Cornelia and Kai.
Absolutely recommended for all gardening enthusiasts.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the KoruKai Farm Tour. An organized, informative overview of the farm and how they do what they do. We came away with practices and new knowledge to implement in our own garden. Well recommended!
Sandra and I really enjoyed the afternoon and brought away some learnings which we can apply at home.
One of the things which interested me was to see what you did with the swales on such steep country. I’ve worked with stormwater swales in several settings but never on such steep country.
Sandra and our daughter Gemma are looking forward to the sour dough bread making in a few weeks; – and I’m awaiting the bread that results. Yum.
Thanks again – and best wishes for the continuing development of KoruKai.
Top presentation as usual.
Loved the development of the lower parking area, and its water reticulation and garden development.
Also, as usual the Hot compost work and worm farms. And your development since the Country Calendar program.
Further to my verbal query, can you confirm my quantity order for Elephant Garlic please, for payment and dispatch.
Thanks again.
Thank you very much for sharing your gardens with us and how you developed the site.
Before we buy your products I now have an understanding of the work that goes into the soil, the growing, harvest, drying to get to that stage. Amazing work. Today was fantastic.
I salute you for the quality and integrity of your work.
Thank you so much.
Cornelia shared a lot of great information and was also responsive to all questions - she and her husband have a lovely interaction which adds to the experience!
It was a long time to be standing - a brief break would have been great - by the time we got to the house there were several weary folk !
A well worthwhile field trip with a ton of great info / my biggest takeaway was the liquid composting from any and all of the resources !
Thanks so much - you guys are doing a great service to others !
Karen
Fantastic KoruKai farm visit yesterday, very informative and knowledgeable experience sharing from Cornelia & Kai. Thank you for your hospitality, highly recommend a visit to this unique herb farm in Pigeon Bay, Banks Peninsula.
Thank you so very much for sharing your love life and life’s work and opening your hearts and home for an opportunity to see life and love in action!
Super well done and thanks again.
A very interesting visit to Korukai today. Kai and Cornelia have certainly worked very hard to achieve what they have up until now and it's still growing. The guided tour was full of interesting topics and handy tips on all subjects relating to their farm and what we can do at home in our gardens. I don't think 24 hours in a day is long enough for the work they have to do but they seem to manage it with positivity and determination. Not to mention self teaching Nicholas and Julia on top of all that they do.
The farm is located on a steep hillside so good shoes is recommended when walking up towards the house. The natural cold spring water is a welcoming treat when filling your water bottle on a warm day. Then to end the tour in the house with some very welcoming home made refreshments and a chance to purchase items from their shop. I personally would have liked the group to have been smaller prob 20 max as your spread out on places thoughout the garden at times and miss some of the information being told. Apart from that a very worthwhile visit. I wish you all the success for your future .
Thank you for sharing your life with us. It was such a wonderful inspiring time. Loved it
Thank you so much for the awesome visit to your farm. After a scenic drive out to your amazing property we absolutely loved looking around and learning so much about all the different plants. It really brought to life so much of the organic learning we had done in theory. Also appreciate you answering all our questions. A wonderland to visit.
So much knowledge was shared, such a motivational and inspirational moving experience to be shown around a property and how achievable it is with determination focus and hard work. Congratulations to you all and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing you and your family's journey with us. You have accomplished magnificent feats on your property and you are an inspiration.
Thank you especially for sharing the mistakes and mishaps. Too often an inspirational working farm like yours can seem unobtainable to us lay people. Through sharing your learning curves, you remind me that mistakes are merely that - an opportunity for learning, and that we need to keep at it.
Kudos to you and your family and all the best for the future.
We so very much enjoyed hearing how you got the farm going and why you do what you do. I’ve already made the suggestion to two others that they should really go. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Hope to see you on campus sometime!
Lovely to be a part of this Farm tour, very informative, a real powerhouse of a team doing the real work on the land. Great to see and bear witness to. Lots of gems of wisdom, very much appreciated the time and knowledge shared. Thankyou
Thank you so much for opening your doors at your open day. I was absolutely blown away by your beautiful and productive gardens. You are so knowledgeable when it comes to organic growing and you have such an in depth knowledge of healthy soil, the basis for all that you do. I have been following you for some time and now that I have visited I know for sure that you walk the talk.
