Elephant Garlic is becoming increasingly popular due to its mild distinctive flavour. It's much easier to grow than true garlic and produces a decent crop in most gardens.

BOTANICAL NAME: Allium ampeloprasum
FAMILY: Alliaceae

Elephant garlic is from the leek family and grows to the same size as a leek with very big heads.

Follow the same bed preparation and planting time as for garlic (see our blog for some guidelines)
Spacing: 18-20 cm between bulbs
Plant at 4-6 cm deep in rich, well drained soil in full sun.
Plant beween mid May and July. Matures in about 7 months.
